Why is negotiation training important?

Negotiation training is important because it is a consequential life skill that very few of us are formally taught.

Negotiation training (ideally) helps participants to be more aware of when and how you are pursuing your INTERESTS and (ideally) draws participants' attention to the relationship between their assumptions about negotiating and their negotiating behaviors, and their negotiating behaviors and negotiation outcomes. The more situations we see as negotiations, the more those situations become negotiable.

Another goal of negotiation training is provide a vocabulary and framework(s) for phenomena with which we are familiar, but might not previously have had the words for. In the constructive development theory that undergirds our trainings, the better we are able to identify our emotions and difficult dynamics, the more productively we can direct them as opposed to being directed by them.
